By first constructing the most energy efficient home and then adding state-of-the-art renewable resources such as roof integrated solar electric systems, BIRA helped plan the Centex Homes’ "Powersave Plus" community to reduce homeowners’ average electric bills by 70%, lowering energy consumption and greenhouse gas production and helping to protect the environment. These homes are also designed to draw no more than 1 kW of electricity during peak times.
